We are excited to announce…

The Tales on Market Street

Reading Group

with Dr Andrew Palmer

Andrew is the author, with Dr Sally Minogue, of The Remembered

Dead: Poetry, Memory and the First World War. Andrew taught English

Literature for 30 years at Canterbury Christ Church University and

brings his insight and experience to in-depth discussions about great

books.

In the first series, Literature and Power, we will explore the way

novelists of the 1950s and ’60s talk back to power in ingenious ways.

The books are:

• Alan Sillitoe, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

• Muriel Spark, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

• Christopher Isherwood, A Single Man

• Jean Rhys, Wide Sargasso Sea

Andrew presents and leads 90-minute discussions, with a break half

way through. We meet monthly on Wednesdays at 4pm, starting on

March 25th 2026.  Introductory video or notes for each book included.

£12 per session, or book all 4 for £40, plus 15% discount on each

book.

To join, send an email to talesonmarketst@gmail.com giving your

name, and phone number, and we’ll be in touch.
